Chairman’s Choice gave apprentice jockey Brittany Button a day to remember.
Riding at her first race day as a jockey, Button landed the first winner of her career aboard the eight-year-old gelding in race seven’s benchmark 58 (1200m) at Towong.
The pair settled just off mid-field before the eight-year-old gelding showed he still has some speed in his legs down the straight to salute by around half a length.
“Whilst Brittany’s apprenticed to Gerald Egan which is great for her, we’ve always had a relationship with her so for her to ride one of our horses for her first winner was great,” Dale said.
“Brittany’s sister Kylie (Relf) is a significant part of our business and does a lot day-to-day with trackwork and communication on how our horses are going, her input is invaluable.
“To see how overwhelmed she was when Brittany won was great, it makes it all so worthwhile.”
It was seven months between races for Chairman’s Choice after suffering an injury mid-last year which at the time put doubt to whether the grey would race again.
“He suffered a fairly significant injury last year and we were really unsure whether he’d race again,” Dale said.
“We’ve gave him a good break, it was seven months between runs which is why his win was so significant for the stable.
“And then you add Brittany winning on him and it makes for a very satisfying win.”
Chairman’s Choice may now run during Albury’s cup carnival where the stable will be looking to feature with a number of other horses as well.
