EAMONN’S Memory was rewarded for a consistent preparation with a victory in last Saturday’s Griffith Cup (1350m).
Hoop Billy Owen parked in behind the leader before proving too strong down the straight to salute by around half a length.
The win continues an outstanding preparation that has spanned over 13 months, picking up six victories.
It’s the gallopers second country cup win after coming hom with the Tumbarumba Cup in January, while he’s placed in the Carrathool and Tumut Cups.
“Because he’s been such a consistent horse his rating has gone up to the mid-70s so he can be difficult to play on the country TAB circuit,” Dale said.
“So the country cup options can become more attractive and that’s seemed to work pretty well for us.
“He’s now won two country cups and placed in two others.”
While it’s been a massive preparation for the son of Per Incanto, Dale said his stable star is showing no signs of slowing down.
“He’s been up for so long that he doesn’t need much training wise,” he said.
“His training consists of a lot of swimming and recovery, we’re forever in maintenance mode because of how regularly he’s racing.
“He’s showing no signs that he wants to have a break though, he’s eating all his food and still running really well.”
Prior to this preparation Eamonn’s Memory had won just three races but incredibly is now up to nine and approaching $200,000 worth in prize money.
“Being by Per Incanto his progeny can sometimes take some time to mature and that was the case for Eamonn’s Memory,” Dale said.
“I think it also took us some time to work out how to ride him best, we’ve figured that riding him quieter seems to benefit him.
“He also likes to stay around that 1200-1300 metres, he’s a hard going horse so the further he goes the more he undoes himself and can be vulnerable last in races.”
Eamonn’s Memory now may be aimed at the Weary Dunlop Handicap on Benalla Cup day next Friday.
