EXCITING two-year-old filly Forgotten Spirit needs a top three finish in tomorrow’s Gold Pearl to be a chance of qualifying for Magic Millions Classic Day.
After a third-place finish in The Debut last week, Forgotten Spirit will now take on the $125,000 Gold Pearl (1100m) for two-year-old filly’s at Aquis Park.
In a huge boost, the Spirit Of Boom filly has secured the services of top Queensland jockey Ryan Maloney who will ride her with 56kg from gate 11.
“She’s drawn awkwardly but I think the senior jockey change should help that a little bit,” Andrew Dale said.
“I think it could also suit her style because as we saw in her trial runs she’s quite strong and aggressive early so a wider gate may help those tactics.”
Forgotten Spirit opened at $20 but has since been backed into $9 as of Friday morning.
The Gold Pearl shapes as the last opportunity for the filly to gain enough prize money to be eligible for Magic Millions Classic Day.
“To me the top end of the field looks stronger than her last start in The Debut but the tail drops away a bit,” Dale said.
“There’s five or six horses at 100-1 or more so that would suggest that it drops away a bit so hopefully we can finish in the top two or three.
“At the moment after winning prize money in The Debut we’re 24th in the ballot and I think they run 16 plus four or six emergencies in the Magic Millions so if she could win some decent prize money tomorrow she’s got a chance.
“She’s been up for a while but that has to happen when you plan for big grand finals like these so fingers crossed everything goes well and she gets to her grand final.”
