Brenlyn’s Legacy impressed in his debut start.

The promising two-year-old led the field in the GJ Gardner Homes 2YO Handicap with 300m to go but was run down late by the Hayes stable’s Impending War who looks to have some talent with his win on debut backing up a classy trial win at Flemington on May 15.

Dale said he’s proud of his rising galloper.

“We’re really pleased with his effort from a wide gate on debut,” Dale said.

“We knew he’d have to do some work early and the pre-race plan was to be as close to the lead as possible as we thought that would give him the best chance.

“It played out that way but it probably left him a bit vulnerable late.

“For him to stick on and run second was a great effort, especially for a debut run in a two-year-old handicap.”

Brenlyn’s Legacy is the full brother to Brenlyn’s Trooper and half-brother to Brenlyn’s Daisy, both racehorses bred by Brendan and Lyn Windsor at their property, Brenlyn Park.

But Brenlyn’s Legacy is more than just a sibling in a successful line, he’s the last horse bred by the Windsors.

Unfortunately, Brendan passed away on April 24 and the two-year-old gelding will be looking to do his breeder well.

“Brenlyn’s Legacy is the full brother to Brenlyn’s Trooper and the half-brother to Brenlyn’s Daisy,” Dale said.

“They were all bred by Brendan and Lyne Windsor and Brenlyn’s Legacy is the last one they bred as Brendan unfortunately passed away.”

Each of the horses carries the name of the Windsor’s beloved farm but Brenlyn’s Legacy will carry the legacy of Brendan.

“Being the last bred horse by the Windsor’s, Brenlyn’s Legacy has been named in honour of Brendan,” Dale said.

“Hopefully he can have a great career and honour Brendan.”

With the family’s legacy and Brendan’s memory riding with him, the two-year-old has already shown signs he’s ready to rise to the occasion.
