Since arriving at Andrew Dale’s Wangaratta stable in May last year, Copperfield has proven to be a consistent and valuable performer. Purchased for just $11,000 via Inglis Digital, he has gone on to win more than $120,000 in prize money, building an impressive resume for the stable.
“He’s been a really handy horse for us and has built a strong record since joining the team,” Dale said.
Under Dale’s care, Copperfield has registered seven wins, including four victories this season and three notable country cups — the Towong Cup, Deniliquin Cup, and Narrandera Pic-Nic Cup.
Most recently, he added to his tally with a win in the Benchmark 82 Handicap (1400m) at Albury on June 16.
“He’s best when he can settle and build through his gears,” Dale said. “Nick Heywood gave him the perfect ride — it suited his pattern and allowed him to finish off strongly.”
The stable now has its sights set on the Narrandera Cup in July, where Copperfield will look to step up from last year’s Pic-Nic Cup success.
“The Narrandera Cup is a great target for him — it’s a good race with solid prize money on offer,” Dale said.
With strong earnings and reliable form, Copperfield is a prime example of sourcing value through online sales and placing horses where they’re best suited to succeed.
