A change of tactics proved the winning move for Andrew Dale Racing galloper Densetsu, who produced a strong front-running display to break through at Echuca on Saturday.

After showing ability throughout his career but often finding trouble in running, the five-year-old gelding by Lonhro was allowed to stride forward and take luck out of the equation, a move that paid dividends with a determined all-the-way victory.

Ridden confidently on speed by Lachlan King, Densetsu controlled the race nicely before holding off his rivals in the straight to secure the third win of his career.

“We allowed him to stride in the heavy going. I elected not to hold him up. We came to the middle part of the straight, he lengthened nicely and did well to hang on late,” King said post-race.

The victory continued a strong run of form for the Wangaratta stable and pushed the team to 48 winners for the season as the yard continues to tick over consistently across Victoria and Southern NSW.

Densetsu has now amassed more than $80,000 in prizemoney and connections remain confident there is still more improvement to come from the talented gelding.

A striking horse with plenty of presence, Densetsu is beginning to deliver on the promise he has shown throughout his racing career.
