Week review

Wagga

  • Saturday’s Wagga meeting saw Sheila run home to her second victory (BM58) in five starts this prep. Jack Martin once again gave the mare a peach of a ride from barrier 10.
  • College Dropout finished third in race one after setting the tempo. The son of Jukebox finished three lengths off the heavy favourite Cassimir who looks a handy type having placed on multiple occasions at Doomben midweek meetings.
  • Anthemic ran fourth behind Sheila in a strong first-up showing.

Narrandera

  • Old grey Chairman’s Choice continues to age like a fine wine winning back-to-back in race eight at Narrandera. The rising eight-year-old’s eighth win takes the gelding over $200,000 in prizemoney. Jack Martin said post-race “There’s a lot of life about the old boy, it was a good effort with the big weight and hopefully he can keep going on with it.”
  • Malabar Queen finished 4.5L off them in a maiden after over racing with the blinkers on.

Echuca

  • Mescaminto bounced back from a disappointing run first-up to finish third by half a length from a wide gate at Echuca (BM58) on Monday. The five-year-old mare hit the line hard and looks primed for her next run.
  • Rainbow Thief was five lengths off the winner in race eight (BM58) in an OK run from a sticky gate (12).

Leeton preview

  • ADR will take eight runners to Leeton’s Country TAB Sky 2 meeting on Saturday.
  • College Dropout will attempt to break his maiden (1150m) with Jack Martin booked to ride. The race maps out nicely for the two-year-old with BOBS eligibility making it even sweeter.
  • Malabar Queen will attack race two with the blinkers set to come off. Kayla Nisbett will ride in the two-year-old’s third start. Looks a live chance if she can bounce back from an average run at Narrandera.
  • Sheila will backup her win at Wagga in race four (BM50 over 1050m) with apprentice hoop Rose Hammond in the saddle. Originally assigned top weight (63.5kg), she gets 3kg off her back with the apprentice claim engaged.
  • More Importance will run alongside Sheila with Jack Martin to ride.
  • Anthemic and Legal Zou will run together in race five (BM50 over 1150m). Both drop down in class which is reflected in receiving the top weights of 63.5kg.
  • Garros and Jahbath round out the day in the final race (BM58 over 1600m) but have drawn poorly in gates 12 and 13 respectively.

Jump outs

  • Brenlyn’s Trooper and Eamonn’s Memory won their respective jump outs at Wangaratta on Tuesday.
  • Brenlyn’s Trooper ran heat 1 (820m) in a time of 49.05, while Eamonn’s Memory took out heat two (820m) in 50.23.

Upcoming meetings

  • To finish the 2022/23 racing season, ADR will attack Echuca on July 28 and Corowa on July 31.
  • After eclipsing 40 wins for the season on the weekend, the stable will be hoping to add to 41 victories.

Flying Artie available

  • ADR still has shares in a Flying Artie x Nishka yearling available for ownership. The stunning one-year-old filly was purchased by ADR for $10,000 at Inglis’ Classic Yearling Sale in February. The filly is currently at the breakers after spelling at Mitchell Park. Flying Artie has had his best season to date as a stallion, racking up 64 winners from 145 starts.
