THE Wangaratta Turf Club’s Trainer of the Year is heating up with just four winners separating first to third.
ADR currently leads the premiership with 51 winners, while Ben Brisbourne (49) and Craig Weeding (47) are close behind.
It’s the closest finish on record for the turf club in what further solidifies the facility as one of the best in the state.
Wangaratta Turf Club chief executive officer Sean Barrett is stoked to see Wangaratta trainers doing well.
“It’s a great achievement for all three of those trainers and their staff to be having such successful seasons and getting so many horses to the races,” Barrett said.
“From the club’s perspective we invest a lot in our facilities and training surfaces so that trainers can run their businesses and be competitive across the state.
“It’s great to see our investment is paying dividends for our trainers.”
For ADR it’s the first time the stable has reached 50 winners after finishing last season with 46.
“It’s going to be a great finish to the season and I’m pleased that both Ben and Craig are doing well,” Andrew Dale said.
“For Craig it’s a huge effort to be at 47 winners, he had around 25 last season so he’s had a 100 per cent improvement which is massive.
“Both Craig and Ben are great fellas and work really hard so I’m glad they’re going well.”
With just two weeks remaining ADR has circled meetings at Wagga on Monday, Echuca on the 26th and Albury on the 29th.
Crimosa and Sheila will tackle race seven’s benchmark 58 (1200m), while Chairman’s Choice will feature in race eight’s benchmark 82 (1400m)
Weeding will be hoping to grab a winner or two at Queanbeyan today with five runners accepted, all of those currently at single figure odds.
Brisbourne has a big week ahead with four accepted at Wagga on Monday, along with five at Seymour, while he has two nominated for Canterbury and one at Sandown on Wednesday.
The Wangaratta Turf Club’s Trainer of the Year will be crowned on August 10 at the club’s Hall of Fame and Trainer’s Awards night.
